WHERE ARE ERIK LINDSTROM RUGS MADE?
Erik Lindstrom rugs are handcrafted by skilled artisan weavers. Our hand-knotted rugs are woven throughout Nepal, while our hand-tufted rugs are made in Thailand.
WHich MATERIALS CAN MY RUG BE WOVEN from?
Our custom rugs can be woven from a wide range of natural fibers, including Tibetan wool, New Zealand wool, fine Chinese mulberry silk, Alpaca, Mohair, Cashmere, Merino Wool, Cactus, Nettle and Hemp. In addition, we offer both Outdoor rugs (Polypropylene) and Performance rugs (Solution Dyed Acrylic). Our team can recommend the ideal material or blend based on the desired appearance, texture, durability and placement of your rug.
HOW LONG DOES A CUSTOM RUG TAKE TO MAKE?
A custom handmade rug typically takes approximately 12 to 20 weeks to produce. Lead times vary depending on the rug’s construction, knot count, design complexity, materials and finished size. Our team will provide a more precise production estimate once the specifications are finalized.
CAN CUSTOM RUGS BE MADE IN DIFFERENT SHAPES?
Yes. Erik Lindstrom custom rugs can be created in virtually any shape, including round, oval, curved, asymmetrical and free-form designs. For more complex shapes, a full-size template may need to be provided to our weaving studio to ensure accuracy and a precise fit.
ARE THERE SIZE RESTRICTIONS?
Custom rugs can be made to suit nearly any required dimensions, from small accent rugs to oversized area rugs. We also create custom wall-to-wall carpeting, hallway runners and fitted stair runners for residential and hospitality interiors.
CAN I DESIGN MY OWN RUG?
Yes. In addition to customizing designs from our existing collections, we collaborate with clients, interior designers and architects to develop completely original bespoke rugs. Our team can translate artwork, architectural details, textiles or other creative references into a custom rug design.
CAN A RUG BE CUSTOM COLORED?
Yes. Every Erik Lindstrom rug can be custom colored using our extensive selection of yarn color poms. We can also develop a close color match from a paint chip, Pantone color, fabric swatch or other physical reference supplied by the client.
ARE RUG PADS INCLUDED WITH ANY ORDER?
Rug pads are not included with a rug purchase, but they are available upon request. Each rug pad can be cut to the exact size and shape of your rug. A properly fitted rug pad helps prevent movement, protects the flooring beneath and can extend the life of the rug.
HOW DO YOU PROTECT A RUG FROM STAINS?
Yes. For an additional cost, our team can arrange for a protective fiber treatment to be applied to your rug. This treatment provides an added layer of protection and may be particularly beneficial in high-traffic or spill-prone areas.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I SPILL OR STAIN MY RUG?
Act quickly to prevent a spill from becoming a permanent stain. Vacuum dry spills immediately. For liquid spills, gently blot the area with a clean, absorbent white cotton cloth—never rub or scrub, as this can push the liquid deeper into the pile or damage the fibers.
Work from the outside edge of the spill toward the center. If residue remains, a small amount of carbonated water may help lift it. A solution of lukewarm water and mild dish soap may also be used sparingly. Avoid oversaturating the rug. If the stain remains, contact a professional rug cleaner experienced with handmade wool and silk rugs.
Professional cleaning is generally recommended periodically, depending on the rug’s material, placement and level of use.
ARE THERE SPECIAL VACUUMS RECOMMENDED FOR THE CARE OF HANDMADE RUGS?
We recommend using a high-quality vacuum with adjustable suction and a carpet-care setting suitable for handmade rugs. Miele vacuums are often a good option because many models allow the suction or brush height to be adjusted.
Avoid aggressive rotating brushes, stiff beater bars and excessively strong suction, particularly on silk, high-pile or delicately textured rugs, as these may pull or untwist the yarn. Always follow the care instructions provided for your specific rug.
DO RUGS FADE?
Erik Lindstrom rugs are created using high-quality, fade-resistant Swiss dyes. However, no dyed natural fiber is completely immune to prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Over time, sunlight may cause subtle fading or color changes.
To minimize uneven fading, rotate the rug periodically and consider using window treatments or UV-filtering glass in rooms with strong direct sunlight.
I SEE A LOOSE YARN. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Because our rugs are handmade and hand-sheared, an occasional strand of wool or silk may rise above the surface of the pile. This is known as sprouting and does not mean the rug is unraveling.
Using a sharp pair of scissors, carefully trim the loose strand so that it is level with the surrounding pile. Never pull the yarn, as doing so may damage the rug.
IS THERE A RETURN POLICY FOR MY RUG PURCHASE?
An in-stock rug may be returned within 10 days of purchase for a full refund, provided it has not been damaged, altered or soiled. If a returned rug requires cleaning, steaming, blocking or other restoration, the associated costs will be deducted from the refund.
Because custom and bespoke rugs are made specifically to the client’s approved specifications, all custom rug orders are final sale and non-refundable.
